Each 30-minute R course will feature instruction and live coding, include a handout covering the core concepts and codes of the lesson, and be accompanied by an assignment for participants to complete between sessions to practice the skills taught in the course. The sample dataset used in the course and for the assignments is available at the course files link below. The workshops will be recorded and turned into a webinar series on the NDACAN website. The workshops will build on each other, and videos will be made available within one week of the workshop so that participants who miss a session can watch before the next live session. The course will be free and requires advanced registration. We hope that you'll join us for this special Office Hours series and LeaRn to code R with NDACAN! Featured Publications: AFCARS Data Suppression Publication Martin Eiermann, NDACAN Research Associate, studied how data suppression rules impact data access and re-identification risk for the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), which is archived at NDACAN. The resulting publication, "The Impact of Data Suppression Rules on Data Access and Re-Identification Risk in Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System Annual Files," explores lowering the long-standing 1000-case threshold for county identifiers to improve data access for researchers (https://doi.org/10.1177/10775595241270042 ). As explained, "adopting a 700-case threshold leads to a 50% increase in the number of identifiable counties while also keeping the percentage of fostered children who face an elevated risk of re-identification below 1%." Based on the study and a follow-up study on the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), the 700-case change for county identifiers was approved by the Children's Bureau (NCANDS publication under review). * National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) Child File Adoption and Foster Care Reporting System (AFCARS) Dylan, J., Orsi-Hunt, R., Kim, H., Jonson-Reid, M., Drake, B.
