Subject: Procedures for reporting suspected CAN
New Jersey statutes require that anyone who suspects that a child is a victim of maltreatment make a report to the appropriate child protective service. Our IRB therefore requires that we include a statement in parental consent forms that inform the parents of this. For a project I'm doing that involves interviews with children (but is not about maltreatment), the IRB would like me to provide them (the IRB, not the parents) with a description of a plan for how I will actually report cases of abuse. Do any of you have procedures that you follow for such reports? Is there some standard practice for researchers in this type of situation? Thanks for whatever assistance you can provide.
