Abstract

The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, State Level Data (NCANDS State), FFY- 2011 dataset consists of State-specific data of all investigated reports of maltreatment to State child protective service agencies. The NCANDS is a federally-sponsored national data collection effort created for the purpose of tracking the volume and nature of child maltreatment reporting each year within the United States. These data are collected within the federal fiscal year (FFY October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2011) rather than the calendar year.

State Level records are reported for 50 cases (48 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico) through the Agency File, and records for one case (Oregon) were contributed through Summary Data Component (SDC) forms. Data on funding of services, number of children screened out, number of Child Protective Services staff, preservation services, reunification, and child fatalities are included. Data are provided in MS Excel spreadsheet form.

Version Notice: The Combined Aggregate File (CAF) of past years is not archived for FFY2009 to FFY2011. In its place are Agency and SDC files. These are the source files used in conjunction with the NCANDS Child File to derive past CAF variables.
